If there is no incentive for you to pay money, then you won't pay money. They have to be things that you may want. Therefor, the shop items have to be nice enough that people would want to buy them. If the shop items were not appealing, in other words, if the shop items were just crap that people would never want, then no one would buy them and the game would stop being profitable, therefor there would be not be a viable business anymore. One developer's salary, just one, is anywhere from $35,000 to $150,000 per year, depending on his or her role. ![]() Servers, plus the salaries of the developers, is incredibly expensive. However, in Fallout 76, Bethesda pays for the servers. In a game like Rust or ARK, the players pay for the servers because the players host them their selves, and have free reign over how to run those servers. Games like this have to earn money somehow. It just gives you some space to show off your cosmetic things. You don't become more powerful by purchasing them. ![]()
